Although I’ve always had a passion for making art, my artistic journey began in earnest in the 1970s when I studied Fine Art at Blackpool College and later at Exeter College of Art and Design.

Over the course of a lifetime I’ve worked in many mediums and in many genres, but some years ago, I finally came to the conclusion that my real interest lies in capturing the essence of a person or an animal. There’s something quite magical about seeing their personality begin to emerge on canvas or paper.

As well as that, I love a challenge, and portrait painting is hard, if you want to get it right.

In the past, I’ve created portraits in graphite, charcoal, and acrylics, These days I prefer to work with the richness, and depth of colour of oils or pastels to create something you and your family can treasure for generations.
